Overview:
The overall aim of the course is to improve understanding of the use of EEG in various ITU settings including status epilepticus, acute brain injury and post-cardiac arrest, as well as the advantages and limitations of different EEG modalities. This is a practical course that includes live demonstrations, illustrative cases and a debate.
Anticipated learning outcomes:
- Better knowledge of the EEG as a neurophysiological technique, non-epileptiform and epileptiform abnormalities, as well as its limitations
- An understanding of the role of EEG in the treatment of critically ill patients with a variety of underlying conditions including in status epilepticus, brain injury and following cardiac arrest
- An appreciation of the advantages and limitations of continuous and intermittent EEG
- Practical insights into setting up an ICU EEG service
