CPD credits are being applied for by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Last year’s meeting was awarded 6 CPD credits.

Summary

The course will explore the practical use of EEG in the ICU – from recording and basic interpretation to the diagnosis of status epilepticus, assessment of acute brain injury, prognostication after cardiac arrest, and the clinical application of processed and quantitative EEG.

The learning objectives are:

  1. Understanding the principles of recording a full-montage and point-of-care (POC) EEG, and recognising key features of normal and abnormal EEG patterns using clinical examples.
  2. Recognising and interpreting EEG features suggestive of status epilepticus and describing the role of EEG in its diagnosis and ongoing assessment.
  3. Understanding the clinical utility and current evidence for EEG in the assessment of patients with acute brain injury, including subarachnoid haemorrhage and stroke.
  4. Understanding the role of EEG in neuroprognostication following cardiac arrest, including the EEG features associated with more favourable and less favourable outcomes.
  5. Understanding the basic principles of processed EEG and quantitative EEG (qEEG), and recognising common patterns and their potential clinical applications in critically ill patients.
  6. Gaining practical insights into setting up an ICU EEG service.

We do have a waiting list for the day made up of those we could not accommodate last year, and places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
