Overview

Epilepsy is a serious comorbidity of a significant number of people with intellectual disabilities. A knowledge and understating of the management of epilepsy is an essential skill for all clinicians/healthcare professionals involved in the care of people with intellectual disabilities. The Royal College of Psychiatrists has proposed a tiered model of competencies with a minimum level which all psychiatrists will have to attain.

This course aims to improve clinician’s/healthcare professional’s knowledge of epilepsy, as well as updating delegates on the diagnosis and management of epilepsy and its comorbidities.

Programme topics include:

  • Diagnostic challenges
  • New anti-seizure medicines
  • Genetics of epilepsy
  • Psychiatric comorbidities and treatment challenges
  • Mortality and SUDEP in people with LD
  • Bone Health
  • Step together

Approved by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians for 6 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s).
